Mt. Kisco, NY – Joel Seligman, President and Chief Executive
Officer at Northern Westchester Hospital (NWH), has been named
2005 Citizen of the Year by the Mt. Kisco Chamber of Commerce.
Seligman
will be recognized on Tuesday, May 10, 2005 at the Chamber’s
Annual Gala at the Holiday Inn of Mount Kisco, located at One
Holiday Inn Drive, Mount Kisco, NY.
Seligman
has dedicated his career to the healthcare industry, serving in
numerous roles at The Mount Sinai Hospital and Memorial Sloan
Kettering Cancer Center before assuming the leadership of NWH
in 2001.
Seligman’s
mission at NWH is focused on clinical excellence, service quality
and community outreach. One of his first initiatives involved
spearheading a series of meetings with community leaders and organizations.
These efforts resulted in a new vision for the Hospital, a strategic
plan to achieve that vision, a facility master plan and a capital
campaign to make it a reality.
Seligman
oversaw the opening of a new Neonatal Intensive Care Unit, an
Interventional Radiology Suite, two new operating rooms and the
expansion of women’s health services. The Hospital will
open a new Cancer Treatment and Wellness Center in the spring
of 2005 and has begun to plan a new, state-of-the-art Emergency
Department. He has worked to strengthen ties with local government,
civic, educational and religious groups and to increase the Hospital’s
outreach with health education and screening programs for all
members of the community.
"Mr.
Seligman has been an inspiration in his commitment to serving
the health field and the community," said Mount Kisco Chamber
of Commerce Executive Director Anne Feldman. "The Chamber
is delighted to honor him and commends him on his outstanding
volunteerism and community spirit."
Seligman
is on the faculty of New York Medical College’s School of
Public Health. Seligman serves as state delegate and member of
the Regional Policy Board 2 of the American Hospital Association
and as Vice President of the Northern Metropolitan Hospital Association.
He is also a member of the board of Governors of the Greater New
York Hospital Association and a member of the Pound Ridge Affordable
Housing Corporation. He is the 2004 recipient of the Visiting
Nurse Association of Hudson Valley’s Ellen Wood Health Care
Award.
Seligman
has developed vital partnerships with other organizations, including
the NewYork-Presbyterian Healthcare System, the Visiting Nurse
Association, the Boys and Girls Clubs of Northern Westchester,
the Open Door of Ossining, and the Planetree Alliance, a national
organization committed to holistic and patient-centered care.
Seligman
holds a Bachelor of Science degree from Boston University and
Masters Degrees in Business Administration and Public Health from
Columbia University. He and his wife have two children and reside
in Pound Ridge.
