Long-Term Care Leadership Summit to Convene National Leaders to Deliberate About Practical Approaches for Sustained Culture Change
Derby, Conn.—Planetree is hosting a Long-Term Care Leadership Summit on October 5, 2010, with the aim of getting to the heart of culture change through an exploration of specific strategies for initiating and sustaining change by those on the front lines of the culture change movement. This program is generously funded by Picker Institute, an international nonprofit organization that supports research in the field of patient-centered care. Due to this funding registration for the summit is free and all participants will also receive a copy of the Long-Term Care Improvement Guide.

Planetree Receives Commonwealth Fund Grant to Develop Designation Criteria and Measurement Strategies for Person-Centered Care
Long-standing leaders in the field from Brown University, IDEAS Institute and My InnerView to collaborate with Planetree
Derby, Connecticut, July 21, 2010—Planetree has been awarded a Commonwealth Fund grant for the development of a refined set of designation criteria and objective outcome metrics by which person-centeredness across continuing care settings can be evaluated. The collaborators working on this grant will have the unprecedented opportunity to align their research and implementation practices to benefit the health continuum. The contributors represent a diverse group of continuing care leaders: Susan Frampton and Heidi Gil of Planetree, Drs. Windber, Waverly and CRE Named 2009 Designated Planetree Patient-Centered Hospitals
October 20, 2009—Planetree has announced that Windber Medical Center (Pennsylvania), Waverly Health Center (Iowa) and Centre de réadaptation Estrie (CRE) of Sherbrooke, Québec have been officially named Designated Planetree Patient-Centered Hospitals. The hospitals were honored at Planetree’s annual conference in Baltimore held October 4-7. Planetree is an internationally-recognized not-for-profit organization that partners with health care providers around the globe to advance patient-centered approaches to care. With its model of patient-centered care being implemented in acute care hospitals, continuing care facilities, outpatient clinics and consumer health libraries across North America and abroad, Planetree is demonstrating that patient-centered care is not only an empowering philosophy, but a viable, vital and cost-effective model of care.

Health Care Leaders Focus on Patient-Centered Care
Derby, Conn., October 1, 2009—As the nation focuses on the future of health care in U.S. hospitals, VA Medical Centers and health care organizations around the country will join Planetree this October to spotlight patient-centered approaches to health care by commemorating the third annual Patient-Centered Care Awareness Month. Delnor and Griffin Hospitals Named Designated Planetree Patient-Centered Hospitals
Derby, Conn., November 6, 2008—Planetree, Inc. has announced that Griffin Hospital (Derby, Conn.) and Delnor Hospital (Geneva, Ill.) have been officially named Designated Planetree Patient-Centered Hospitals. Planetree's Patient-Centered Hospital Designation Program is the only formal designation program that recognizes individual hospitals' achievement and innovation in fostering an organizational culture that prioritizes patient comfort, dignity, empowerment and well-being. Nation's Hospitals Celebrate Putting Patients First
Derby, Conn., October 3, 2008—Hospitals around the country join Planetree this October to commemorate second annual Patient-Centered Care Awareness Month. Interview with Susan Frampton

As the President of Planetree, a non-profit membership organization, Susan Frampton, Ph.D., works with an alliance of over 120 hospitals and health centers around the country that have implemented Planetree’s unique patient-centered model of care. Prior to her work with Planetree, she spent over twenty years at several hospitals in the New England area. Her work focused on community education, wellness and prevention, planning, and development of integrative medicine service lines. Frampton received both masters and doctoral degrees in medical anthropology from the University of Connecticut, and has numerous publications, including the edited collection “Putting Patients First” (Jossey-Bass Publishing, 2003), which won the ACHE Hamilton Book of the Year Award in 2004, chapters in Integrating Complementary Medicine Into Health Systems, (Aspen, 2001) and articles and interviews in AHA News (2003), Modern Healthcare (2002), Complementary Health Practice Review (2001), and Hospitals and Health Networks (2002). She speaks widely on cultural and organizational change, patient-centered care, and health care consumerism.

Susan Frampton, Ph.D.,
  is President of Planetree Institute, a non-profit organization that promotes and provides education in patient-centered care, Frampton works with a growing alliance of hospitals and health centers around the country, Brazil, Canada, Europe and Japan that have implemented Planetree’s unique patient-centered model of care. Prior to her work with Planetree, she spent over twenty years at several hospitals in the New England area. Her work focused on community education, wellness and prevention, planning, and development of integrative medicine service lines. Frampton serves on the Connecticut Healthcare Research and Education Foundation’s Patient Safety Organization, and is an invited member of the Institute of Medicine panel on reducing medical error and improving patient safety.

Patrick Charmel
is  President and Chief Executive Officer of Griffin Hospital and its parent corporation Griffin Health Services Corporation. Among the positions he has held at Griffin are Assistant to the Administrator, Assistant Administrator, Clinical Services and Vice President, Hospital Operations. He became President and CEO in 1998. During his tenure he has positioned Griffin Hospital as an award-winning, innovative organization, recognized as an industry leader in providing personalized, humanistic, consumer-driven health care in a healing environment. Since adopting the Planetree philosophy in 1991, over 550 hospitals have visited and toured Griffin and its award-winning patient-centered care building. Under Charmel’s leadership, Griffin Hospital was named one of fifteen "Hospitals With Heart” by AARP’s Modern Maturity Magazine, was featured on the CNBC produced “Wall Street Journal Report” and was spotlighted, along with Planetree, in a PBS special “Hospitals With a Heart” that aired in 2004.
